Changes!

If you are a particularly observant reader you may have noticed that there have been  few changes over the weekend.  The most obvious is the color scheme.  We’ve changed it up from the brown to this tranquil blue.  The brown hues did work thematically, but weren’t very eye pleasing.

In addition I added an article slider at the top that will rotate through some recent posts.

Finally, the categories have been updated to fit the direction my writing has taken, which hopefully will be a little less random.  On second thought…no promises there.

This week I will finish tweaking the design and colorization, re-work the about page and give a further break down of the new categories.

Hopefully no one violently despises the new look, but I’m open to feedback.

Do you like the new colors?  Do you miss the thematic coffee colors? Love the article slider?  The comment box is just below, waiting for your opinion.

I’m still here!

Apologies for an unannounced dark week here at Not Enough Coffee.   I’ve been sick, which is a lame excuse, but it is the one I have.   The lack of caffeine coupled with cold medicine has left me a lethargic pile of goo.   Hopefully after a restful weekend I will return Monday with a normal schedule.

Until then, everyone have a fantastic weekend.

Home sweet home

I have returned from an epic journey that started off with some insane difficulties.  The story has become an entity of its own, that through re-telling has become something like trying to get to Mount Doom to destroy the one ring.  I was just trying to get to my cousin’s wedding and it seemed like everything was trying to stop me from arriving.  I spent time in 5 different states trying to fly up.  Insanity.

The back half was amazing though.  I will expand on that more tomorrow but it was a really awesome and positive trip.

I’m home now though and settling in to my normal routines.  Getting my laundry done and unpacking.  Boring stuff.

But my “vacation” was every bit as eye opening as I had hoped.  It truly was good to get the hell out of Dodge for a few days, and its changed my perspective some on my life, and where this blog is heading.  The grueling journey to my destination and the first half of my trip were in complete contrast to my flight home and the end of my trip.  Opposites exist to make us all appreciate the good things I guess.

We interrupt your regular blogging schedule

So I’m flying away for a few days.  My most awesome cousin is getting married and I’m going back up to semi-thawed out tundra.  I will see both sides of my family in a whirlwind of both drama and fun.  Hopefully I will return in full force with a ton of perspective and awesome ideas.

Be back Wednesday.

Until then check me out on Twitter where I’ll be sharing all my frustrations and insights.    :)

Who are You? Who will You be?

Hello, I’m Amanda.

I’m the person behind the words you read on Not Enough Coffee.  This is where all the blogging advice blogs say I should tell you about how great I am and how im super qualified to tell you what to think.   Well…..  fuck that.

Im 28, I sleep too much, and drink too much coffee.

I have a mountain of student loan debt from a wasted education that is unfinished and unusable, I watch too many movies, I have an unhealthy love of Star Wars, I sometimes drink too much vodka, and I work in a soul sucking and spine crushingly boring job that I hate, in an industry based on greed and ignorance.

Everyday I see and interact with people who are selfish and completely unaware of themselves or others around them.  They are rude and lazy and they make me lose all faith in humanity. They are the consumer frenzy.

I don’t want to despise people, and I don’t want to think its all hopeless.  In less than 2 years I’ll be 30 and to steal from Lethal Weapon, “I’m getting too old for this shit.”  (more…)

4 Things You Need to Know About Not Enough Coffee

We know what we are, but know not what we may be.
~William Shakespeare

Monday’s article provided an overview of the site’s intentions, and today we will break down the categories so you will know what to expect in the future.

Like all things with human influence, this site will evolve.  The categories will evolve beyond the parameters and become more than they are.  But for now…

Not Enough Coffee’s categories:

Escapism: Articles in this category will be about the things in life that provide a distraction or escape from ordinary life, the components of fantasy.  Wandering through a fictional world and imagining yourself in spectacular situations is a powerful tool to brush off the mundane world of laundry and bill paying.  This category will contain reviews and articles about movies, television, fluff fiction, Zombie attacks, Vampires, superheroes and Video Games.

Examples:  Would Super Powers Improve your Life?

5 Books Better than the Twilight Saga

10 places to hide in a Zombie Apocalypse (more…)

Not so helpful, self help experts

coffee break
Do you ever feel like you want to give the finger to sickeningly repetitive self-help experts?

Do you find yourself screaming “I haven’t had enough coffee for this shit!” several times a day?

This week will feature posts about the site.  The purpose, what we’re all doing here, who I am and what you can expect on this blog in the future.

Not Enough Coffee is a blog about the things that motivate and inspire; things that provide distraction, frustration or a needed escape. This is an under-caffeinated search for balance and sanity.

A lot of “self-help experts” tend to give their advice in such a sugary, upbeat, unrealistic way that it becomes difficult not to resent what is sometimes a good message.  These guys have ingested too much of their special brand of Kool-aid.  Its hard to connect with what they’re saying when they sound like sanctimonious and judgmental lobotomy patients. It’s a Website!

Its somewhat embarrassing how long it has taken to find the motivation to create this site, but caffeine only takes a person so far.  Sometimes we have to really look  for entertainment and motivation in the world.

Not Enough Coffee is about all the things that make you think, “I haven’t had nearly enough caffeine for this!”

I’m still working on getting everything up and running, but I wanted to greet anyone who stopped by.
