things I’m doing instead of writing blog posts

Watching an inhuman amount of Sailor Moon.  Shut up its awesome.  Unless you watch it in English. Stressing out about my ever increasingly boring job. Meh Sleeping too much. Researching a method for a DIY bird bath.  (What did the world do before google?) Becoming obsessed with making and eating Bento. And Rice balls!  yum.  [...]

Social Masks: Have courage to be yourself

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” ~Dr. Seuss I know someone who speaks in a false accent.  At least we’re all pretty sure she’s faking, because every now and then it vanishes entirely and she sounds like a bland mid-western.  [...]

Gratitude: Cultivating a habit

I try to keep a Gratitude Journal, though many days I fail to use it.  I forget about it, or am too tired (lazy) to pick it up and write. I think gratitude is important in trying to maintain a positive outlook.  Try to be thankful for small things as well as big blessings in [...]

Why do you quit before you get started?

“Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic.” ~Unknown How often do you try completely new things?  When is the last time you abandoned all reason and took an ambitious leap into an activity you’d never tried before?  If you’re like me, it may have been a [...]

Why we struggle and why it’s important

Gather ’round, it’s story time!   Sometimes, its hard to remember that things happen for a reason.  There is a plan, and the things we go through prepare us for the things ahead.  I read this story about a year ago and I like to re-read it when I’m feeling overwhelmed by life.  Hopefully it brings [...]

A day late ode to awesome dads

Any man can be a father.  It takes someone special to be a dad. ~Author Unknown Father’s Day was yesterday and if you forgot you’d better call your dad asap with apologies and some epic excuses. I would like to take a moment to thank dads for being awesome.  I can’t imagine the person I [...]

Inspired to quit

So, I read the most horrifying thing a week or so ago.  Came seriously close to melting my face off like acid.  Word acid. The article was titled 10 New Ideas for Getting Inspired to Write, which sounded like just the kind of article I would like to read.  The ideas presented are good, solid [...]

Five things to do when you get sick

I’m sick.  I hate being sick.  Though, thinking about it, I’m not sure anyone really enjoys being sick, so maybe it goes without saying that I hate it. When you get sick there are certain things that help speed along the recovery process. Assemble the right combination of consumer goods. If you are lucky, you [...]

Infect others with joy: How to fight your boss

I have what you might call a toxic boss.  She has days when she’s fine, and she has days when she’s downright vicious.  Yesterday, during our morning meeting it became clear to me that we were all going to have a very bad day.  The mood was set.  Anger was the dish we were to [...]

Does anyone really like change?

I hate big decisions.  I really really do.  A decision means that something is going to be left behind.  Whichever alternative you don’t pick is going to remain an abandoned possibility.  A road never traveled.  A future self you will never be. I always wonder if the other choice would have been a better one. [...]

Say yes to adventure!

I am a really boring person sometimes.  I can fill days and weeks with watching reruns of old tv shows while sitting on my couch. Forget nail biting, or neglecting laundry.  This is my worst habit, wasting time.  What’s worse than just wasting the time is that I complain that nothing exciting is happening in my life while I sit around at home watching TV.

News flash!   Nothing fun and exciting is going to happen to you while you’re sitting on the couch.

There isn’t a secret patrol of super fun people going door to door wanting to make friends or date you.  You’ve got to get out of your comfort zone, go and do something new that you’ve never done before.  Great moments in your life are always a little scary.  This is life right now, this moment.  “This is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time.”

Sometimes you have to travel a path, any path, just to do something.  It may not be the right thing, but you have to get started somewhere.

Occasionally you’ve got to be  a “little” irresponsible to make life fun again.  Go insane for a day, just to make the normal days have good contrast.  Do something wacky or dumb.  You don’t have to be extravagant to get your perspective back, you just have to get out and experience something.

Go to lunch or coffee with a good friend and have a great conversation.  Really engage, don’t just wait for your turn to talk

Get stark raving drunk with some friends

Go see a crappy movie you would never otherwise see

Find some local event that’s happening and go to it

Follow an adventure.  Say yes when you would normally say no.

The point is that when life gives you an opportunity, take it.  Odds are you won’t be blowing up the Death Star or facing off against giant alien robots, but you could be in for a great adventure. If nothing else, remember this, “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

***Full Disclosure:  I sat around my house watching like 4 hours of Arrested Developement on Netflix streaming before hammering out this article, sorry but I wallow in hypocrisy.  I occasionally take my own advice though. ***

Are pets a blessing or a curse?

If you own this cat, it is certainly a blessing.  You always have fluffy entertainment.  I don’t even usually like cats, but I want this one.  This cat is clearly awesome.

This morning we have some amusing videos for you to enjoy.  Nice low key entertainment.  You’re welcome.

Kitty has a spectacular vertical leap!

Squish face!

See? Isn’t this the most adorable cat?  Experts (whoever they are) say that owning pets can add several years to your life expectancy.  Look at all the amusement this kitty gives.  Laughter! Get some!  Have a good Monday everyone!

An easy way to find new inspiration

“So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key” ~Already Gone by The Eagles It’s pretty easy to get stuck in a routine.  Weeks blend together and you feel trapped in the necessity of earning the bi-weekly paycheck and the general upkeep of [...]

Are you too distrac… Is that a butterfly?

We live in an age filled with wonderful distractions.  300 cable channels at your fingertips to flip through and still nothing is on.  At least DVR was invented so that if you plan ahead you will never be without TV. If the television isn’t your particular interest there is always the internet.  Some of you [...]

Why do you complain?

“Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain. ~Lily Tomlin I would be lying if I said I didn’t complain.  I do.  Frequently.  In fact if my mouth is moving there is at least a 40% chance the words falling out are some kind of “complaint”.  I tend to rant about lousy things [...]

Level up: Learn the skills your dreams require

We all have things in our lives we’d like to change.  Some things we have control of, and many things we don’t.  Being unable to control our circumstances doesn’t mean these things won’t change, it just means we have to be patient. Being patient isn’t just waiting though. The only thing you can really change, [...]

This three day weekend has stolen my motivation

Weekends are a bit like rainbows; they look good from a distance but disappear when you get up close to them. ~John Shirley My weekend has been a whirlwind of insanity.  It is for this reason that I regret to inform you that this is not a usual Monday morning update. This is a cop [...]

Sending a grown up to the kid’s table

Most of us have had big family holidays with aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives of all varieties. Usually at large gatherings like this the children get their own table. The kids usually love this since it means they don’t have to listen to boring grown up talk and they get to use less than polite [...]

A simple decision to act

I’ve got to keep on chasin’ that dream, though I may never find it I’m always just behind it. ~Boston Over the weekend I read a great blog article from Jon Acuff from Stuff Christians Like. It was 2 articles really.  The first was a poll to his readers asking what their “thing” is.  By [...]

Have faith! The storm will pass

My power was out intermittently and my internet was out all night due to crazy thunderstorms.  The post I had planned requires more words than any sane person can type into their phone.  So this morning  you will have some lovely quotes to ponder as you make it through your Monday. Have faith in God; [...]
